SmartBear Software Launches API Complete

SmartBear Software announced the launch of API Complete this week, which the Beverly, Mass.-based company says will allow “software developers, testers, and IT operations staff to test and monitor the quality of APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and Web Services in an integrated and streamlined fashion.”

The Agile Automobille That Gets 100 Miles Per Gallon

Here’s an interesting agile project that could shake up the automobile industry: Author Steve Denning posts over at Forbes a profile of Team Wikispeed, a Lynnwood, WA-based collection of volunteers currently developing a super fuel-efficient car (100 miles per gallon) using agile methodologies and crowd funding. The collective, led by a software consultant with the power name of Joe Justice, plans on selling its vehicle “for less than $20,000.”

eBay to Open New Development Center in India

Want a job? You might want to catch the next flight to Bangalore. San Jose’s eBay is opening a global development center in India’s “garden city” and plans on hiring “1,000 technologists over the next three years.”

CollabNet Releases CloudForge

Brisbane’s CollabNet is starting off this week with a new corporate strategy and a new product launch. As of this Monday, CollabNet will now focus on “the enterprise adoption of hybrid cloud development and deployment.” Additionally, the application lifecycle management company “launched CloudForge(TM), the industry's first enterprise-grade development-Platform-as-a-Service (dPaaS), and also integrated CloudForge into its on-premise TeamForge® and Subversion Edge products.”  

Hacker Steals Source Code From VMware

It’s been rough sailing for VMware this week as a hacker named “Hardcore Charlie” claims to have stolen some of the Palo Alto-based company’s source code and other documents via a Chinese military contractor. Ars Technica has some background information on the hacker with the not-so-subtle name:

SAP Opens Palo Alto "Agile" Complex

German enterprise software giant SAP is planning on infiltrating and dominating the cloud market, and it's doing it the agile way according to IDG News Service. SAP unveiled this week a brand new 42,000 square foot complex in their Palo Alto base, specifically built to house cloud development teams. Chris Kanaracus writes that the new facility “reflects agile development's principles of adaptation, close collaboration and flexibility.”

Oracle Takes Google to Court Over Java

White House Launches SummerQAmp for Needy Youth

It’s about time we highlight some good news going on in the world of software. Last month, as part of the White House’s Summer Jobs+ initiative—created to spur businesses and organizations to provide employment to needy youth—saw the launch of SummerQAmp, a “a nationwide initiative to train a new workforce in high-tech skills and help create tech jobs for American youth,” according to the announcement.
